TRɅSH by O

TRɅSH by O is a clothing brand exploring the connection between clothing, the physical body, and the mind. With a new collection titled ‘Accident’ founder Olga has used fashion to find liberation from thoughts connected to sexual harassment, humiliation and insult, creating dark, warped but simultaneously strong garments.

We spoke to TRɅSH by o about the ideas behind the collection, where to find inspiration and the lessons learnt along the way.

How did your journey to creating your own brand begin?

I am the owner of the brand, fashion designer, photo/videographer and producer.

I think the beginning of my career originally was the moment when I realised that being a fashion designer was my path.

I worked as an intern at Rokh. I was given the task of deconstructing and draping one of the pieces for the collection.

I don't know why, but it was at that particular moment working with the piece that I genuinely felt this was exactly what I wanted to do.

Me and the piece, it meant the world to me at that moment.

Your designs are quite distorting to the body, and I know that the new collection ‘accident’ is linked to a personal story about harassment and assault, would you be able to tell us a bit about your design process and emotions the pieces are revealing?

This collection is a liberation process, breaking free from dark thoughts and experiences related to sexual harassment, humiliation and insults. Designing each garment is the process of expressing the emotions associated with events like that.

Body distortion, asymmetry, twisted seams symbolize the deformation of consciousness. All the rips and tears imitate mental wounds. Some pieces completely cover the body, like a ‘second skin', to create the effect of immersion in a state of shock. At the same time, I wanted to show strength with clearly defined, firm silhouettes.

Broad question: what do you think about the fashion industry at the moment - where do you find inspo? What do you love? What do you hate? What needs to change?

I can find inspiration everywhere, from people on the street to any bits and bobs, even rubbish.

I love the way clothes can tell stories.

I do not like that it is a consumer world.

As for changes, I wish there were real opportunities for people of all social classes, nations, everyone.

Finally, what’s been the best lesson you've learnt on your journey?

There is beauty in mistakes.
